Modernization has made the world very small and has helped people cultivate tastes for a variety of foods cooked in a variety of spices and flavors. Now it has become a fashion for people to try cooking various kinds of food at home with spices from many lands. No wonder, plenty of attractive spice racks are available in such wide price ranges. The picture above is a typical spice box known as Masala Dabba and is used in every Indian Household.
I think that a kitchen is a very important part of any home. The way a kitchen is maintained, reflects the personality of the household. Organization and cleanliness are two cornerstones of a good kitchen. The spice box that I have pictured above helps organize spices and maintain an easy to use system for the chef. After all, cooking can be tiring, opening and closing bottles every 5 minutes can become tedious to even the most seasoned cook.
These boxes come in various sizes and are available in most of the Indian Stores. It is a stainless steel box, having 7 individual, removable, small containers without lids and a small spoon which stays in the box itself for convenience. The large lid of the box covers all the containers and that makes it easy to use. The removable containers make it easy to refill the spices and to clean individually. The lid is on the left side of the box shown in the picture. Moreover, the box can be easily kept in the kitchen drawer to save the counter space.
The small jars with colorful lids hold some special spices that are used occasionally for some special recipes. The fresh herbs like ginger, garlic, green chilies, mint leaves, curry leaves, basil etc. are also part of daily flavors enjoyed in many recipes.
